The Boston Keratoprosthesis is an "artificial cornea" that can be used in severe corneal opacity. The Boston Keratoprothesis can be used when a standard corneal transplant would be unlikely to succeed. It may also be used temporarily when vitreoretinal surgery is required prior to standard corneal transplantation.
